IMPORTANT: You do NOT need to log in or have an account to edit trails on Trail WIKI. We encourage everyone to jump right in and start adding or editing content in trails. Also, you do not need to add all the information for a trail, adding something as simple as an Overview and Location Data can be enough to get a trail going and encourage others to add their knowledge.

Please know that your IP address will be saved to discourage malicious editing or "graffiti" and that we will take steps to ban users who repeatedly graffiti pages. Please remember that inadvertently adding inaccurate information is OK and will be fixed by other users, although of course adding this knowingly would constitute graffiti. The most important thing is to jump in there and start contributing!

All trail pages on Trail WIKI take the same basic shape. On the right of the page is a "Info" box that has statistics about the trail and a map showing the trailhead.

To edit a trail, click the "edit trail" tab on the trail page - Edit-trail-button.jpg This will take you to the Edit Trail page, about which the information below describes. Information Box

   Main Photo: A photo that represents the general qualities of the trail. You must have uploaded the photo to Trail WIKI before referencing it here (see Help:Images#Uploading_Photos for more info). The image should be at least 270 pixels wide (otherwise the image will be stretched). Just type the file name itself in this textbox to reference it.
   Trail Number: Most US Forest Service trails have a trail number.
   City: Enter the nearest city to the trail
   State: Enter the full state name of which the trail resides in. Example: Washington

       Icon Walk 20px.png - Trails that take no difficult in any way and are suitable for kids

   Trail Type:
       Loop - A circuit trail that starts and ends at the same location
       Out-and-back - A straight line trail that one will need to backtrack on
       Lollipop Loop - A lollipop loop is a route that starts at the bottom of the stick and goes up to the lollipop where it goes in a circular route and returns to the same point.
       One Way - A trail that is one way(Usually Mountain Biking trails)
       Multiple Routes - A trail with multiple trailheads 
   Season: Consider the months that the trail can be enjoyably used or is easily accessible
   Distance: Enter the round trip distance in miles.
   Elevation Gain: The total number of feet or meters that is gained through ascents and descents during the trail (please use the units appropriate to the region the trail is in)
   High Point: The highest point on the trail in either miles or kilometers (please use the units appropriate to the region the trail is in)
   Latitude: Enter the Latitude of the trail head. Example: 47.534559
   Longitude: Enter the Longitude of the trail head. Example: -122.128572
   Nearest Medical: This is independent of the Google Map; simply type in the city and state that is the nearest major medical service.
